Anniversary of the Queen's Accession

It was on this day in 1952, with the passing of the great King George VI that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom officially came to the throne of Great Britain and the other Commonwealth realms. May her reign continue for many, many more years to come. God Save the Queen!

  2. Yes, the Queen is going the distance. The women of the British Royal Family seem to have been blessed with much greater longevity than the men. The only competition Elizabeth II has in terms of reign-length are Queen Victoria and King George III. And through it all she has done a very admirable job.

  4. Very true, I was reminding someone just today, when speaking of King George III, that the current Queen's powers are not significantly different from his, it is only that nowadays it would be unthinkable for Her Majesty to exercise them as he did.

  5. IOne last. The Men may not reign as long because the Women when tey tae over dont giveup till their male Successors are old themselves. Imagine a 75-80 year old Charles takign over, then tell me how it is he will be expected to Martch such a Long Reign!

  6. Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II also have good health in common. King George VI might have lived considerably longer if he had not smoked so much, Edward VII smoked and drank quite alot and George IV was the picture of unhealthy living so all of that certainly makes a difference.
