Yes, I am packing it in and taking down the shingle. The point was reached a couple days ago but I wanted to finish up the mini-reviews of the kings of Portugal just in case anyone was interested and then do one last post to let everyone know what is happening so as not to just go silent. There are some issues that I have to deal with, some problems that need sorting out and trying to do so online clearly has not been helpful. Likewise, for some time, there are some who have been urging me to direct my energies toward other projects which, I am assured, will be more beneficial for myself and more productive in terms of their goals which are more political and nation-specific than what I have been doing here. I do not know how that will work out but, at the very least, I do expect it to be more simple and straightforward with everyone pulling in the same direction and with some people I know who will have my back regardless of the circumstances. In terms of what I will be doing, it will probably be more behind the scenes though I doubt anyone here will ever come across it in any event.
I do not like to see this end, if for no other reason than the amount of time I have put into it. The better part of a decade and currently with a consistent 3,500 readers, give or take, every day is, in my book, nothing to sneeze at for what is a very niche and non-mainstream topic. Obviously, not everyone is impressed and I am told I will be able to have a much bigger impact in other fields but it will not be the same as this blog was, from start to finish, entirely my own, my effort to carry on independently after the respectable monarchists showed me the door. It will always be my baby and I will keep it up for now, I may come back to it at some point depending on how things go elsewhere. For now anyway, I have to pack it in. I have some big things to figure out and some big decisions to make about going forward. To the one I shall not name who left the un-posted comment, I thank you for your sentiments, your words count more than most in my book and if you feel like discussing the issue in question further you can leave another message with your email address if you would like. If not, know that I do it appreciate your support and we'll leave it at that. And, thank you to all of you who are regular readers. Many have come and gone over the years but I do know a few who have stuck around almost from the very beginning. I do appreciate it, I am very grateful for it and sorry for disappointing.
Goodbye, farewell and Sayonara...
The Mad Monarchist
Thanks for all of the reading !
ReplyDeleteTo keep it short: Thank you so much for all the time and energy you have invested in this blog, I have always enjoyed reading your articles. I wish you all the best - personally and for your new projects. Still I hope that one day I will hear or read from you again - be it here or elsewhere. Alles Gute!
ReplyDeleteFarewell for now Mad Monarchist. Thank you very much for being an eloquent example of elevated dialogue that has persisted through your publications on this blog. You shall be missed by this fellow monarchist and many others who share such ideas and sentiments. In final expressions before the end of this message, allow me to extend my deepest desire for you to carry on the good fight in whatever endeavor you desire to pursue. Take very good care sir.
ReplyDeleteEsteemed Regards,
Frank
Thank you my friend for all the hard work you have done for the cause I hope whatever you do keep up the cause for us you're a good fighter I hope that you come back to this though. Your work has been amazing and I love it and like to see you do more but I understand we all need a break sometimes
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and regards. May you find success in whatever you put your efforts.
ReplyDeleteI will miss these reports. One of the pleasures I have been looking forward to.
God save the Queen (and all the other monarchs, too!)!
Very sad to see you stop! Reading this site has been an enjoyable part of my routine. Any word on what sort of things you will be working on in the future? Will you continue to write elsewhere?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your work.
Please count me as one of many who have found both inspiration and joy in reading The Mad Monarchist.
ReplyDeleteWhile it might not be exactly your cup of tea, much of what I read here helped shape The Civil Right - a project to define a set of ideas, of which monarchy is a key. Should you care to look, the FAQ item on monarchy, titled "Monarchy? Seriously?" is here - http://thecivilright.org/faq/#monarchyseriously
Please accept my sincere thanks for your work here! Take care and God bless.

I am really sorry to see you go. It is unfortunate that you have are facing your own issues but beyond that having also watched the drama on here and Twitter you absolutely do NOT deserve the way people tend to treat you. You might not see this comment, but know that you have my support in whatever you do regardless of whether I know about it or not, and would like to thank you for guiding me on my path however unaware you may have been on that front.
ReplyDeleteI would get a hit of dopamine whenever I checked this blog and found a new post for the day. It was just as exciting as reading about what MM had to say.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I’m sorry to see you go. But it’s your blog, and your decision to discontinue is what’s gonna happen whether I like it or not. I do hope to run into your future work, but I understand if you don’t want to publicize it very much. Those Twitter comments were nasty, and are a reminder of why I stopped using social media myself.
At the least, MM has left us all with a voluminous archives that we can still read, and that will be a reminder of his vast knowledge of real history and traditional authority that has been lost in our insane world.
Godspeed sir. Take care. And thank you.
Thank you for the wealth of insight and information you've posted. I only discovered your blog a few months ago, but it rapidly made its way onto my 'favourites' list.
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't always agree with what you wrote here, you've made me question something I'd always taken for granted: 'republic good, monarchy bad'. Now I'm more open-minded about the merits of monarchical rule.
Finally, thank you too for the positive write-ups on Austria-Hungary and the Italian military in WWII (amongst the other topics). It irritates me no end when either are thoughtlessly denigrated, and you've articulated my own thoughts on these subjects.
Good fortune, and thanks again.
Vince from Down Under
Hey MM, It's truly unfortunate that you're leaving. I am abit sadden because you leaving is like yanking an already grown flower from a garden. YOu have no replacements, so its even worst. Things won't be the same.
ReplyDeleteI hope the best and many blessings for you, Amen.
It's sad to see you go in time like this when it seems more are starting to question the path we went on in removing or neutering all the old monarchies. I understand though that there are other things to deal with in life. I hope you the best.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's a pity. Hope we run into each other somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteHope you have success in whatever it is you're leaving for. Good luck, and Godspeed.
ReplyDeleteI hope you for the best Mad Monarchist! I do however think you should continue the Youtube channel as I said on Twitter. To expose the light of glory in monarchy, and your truth of words, we can't stay isolated as the Tokugawa, we have to open up, and expand our Imperial Empire!
ReplyDeleteBut I still thank you for your commitment.
I'm sad too see you leave, as your words bring light to me about the glory of monarchy. While I stand by my idea that you should restore your Youtube channel to spread the word, as you should not remain a Tokugawa Shogunate, but should be an Imperial Empire.
ReplyDeleteWhen you come back, I'd love to see you do a profile on Mohammed Alim Khan, last descendant of Genghis Khan.
I love your content, but always remember Long live Monarchy, and Long live the MAD MONARCHIST!!!!!
God bless and may you never go away from the narrow path.
ReplyDeleteA Morsel of Perfection
ReplyDeleteIn this imperfect world,
one needs to look beyond that imperfection. There
one might find a morsel of perfection that
will make the world seemingly perfect and …
full of happiness.
I wish you the best and thanks for your dedication for monarchism.
Long live monarchism & conservatism!
It's disappointing to see you go, MM, and I do hope you'll return someday, but until then I will merely say that it has been an absolute pleasure to read your blog over the years. First found it back in 2011 when I was starting to question my support of republicanism and reading your work more than anything else is what convinced me to become a staunch monarchist. I do hope that even should you never return to this blog, that you do keep it up. It is still a wonderful source to reference when it comes to monarchical information and I access older articles on the regular. Though I did not see eye to eye with you on every occasion, you have done excellent work and fought the good fight. Farewell wherever you fare till your eyrie receives you at the journey's end.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the hard work over the years, you've shown a young monarchist he isn't alone out there. Your articles have been the glimmer of light in whats a dark political world. I wish you the best in your new endeavours. Remember that, while we are a niche group, we all feel a deep appreciation for your work. There's a legion of monarchists who owe you a lot. Whilst unlikely, maybe one day we can return the favour, as we edge toward a monarchist future.
ReplyDelete-Revolutionary Conservative
This is a very sad goodbye. I have been reading for years; since nearly the beginning I think. I have to say few works of editorial content have had such an impact on me as yours. Your departure from our community is a tragedy but what you have given us is a treasure. I cannot tender enough thanks to you for all that you have written over the years. Yours happens to be one of the few political viewpoints that I actually wholeheartedly agree with. Best of luck in all that you do. From someone that has been reading since they were a teenager...you will be missed dearly. I wish you peace and blessings from NY.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you MM and all your future endevours. Finding your blog was like coming home. To find other unapologetic monarchists was astonishing and very very empowering! Reading your posts has always been a highlight of my day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
ReplyDeletethank you for all the reading matrial, hope you will have a bright future
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great work you've done all these years. Wish you a great journey.
ReplyDeleteReading your blog has been a pleasure for me. It has always been fun to read your articles about monarchies that I have never heard about before.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I wish to say is this; Thank you. I discovered your blog in my late high school years and it truly changed my outlook on life. It wasn’t that long ago (3, 4, 5 years maybe? I’ve lost count); but so much has changed for me in that time that it feels like an eternity ago. The philosophy contained within your many writings has become so much a part of me that I can scarcely remember what I was like before I started reading it. It is thanks to you that I am a monarchist, and it is thanks to you that I was set on the path to traditionalism spiritually as well. It is thanks to you that I’ve devoted my life to the cause of traditionalism, and to the motto of Faith, Tradition, and Monarchy. It is my goal in life to defend it, and I’ve dedicated my Youtube Review series to doing so, both overtly, and by showing the monarchist symbolism in films, television shows, and other media. I’ve mentioned you as my influence in my series’ credits, and I may even dedicate my series to you, as I would not be where I am today without your influence.
ReplyDeleteI’ve spent countless hours reading through your articles; often falling behind with your newer posts due to having so much catching up to do regarding your older ones; even now, I doubt I’ve managed to read them all due to not being here from the start. I’ve found myself looking back on what you’ve previously written on many occasions, and I often reference your work when writing articles of my own. I know it sounds corny, but I can honestly say whenever I am wondering about a political issue, the next thing I do after asking what Jesus would say about it, is go check and see what you’ve written about it. I hesitate to call you my ‘hero’, as I’m sure you’re far too humble wish such an accolade, but really, it’s a pretty good description of it. You have been and remain my greatest influence out of all those on the Earth, and though I know you did a whole post on why you shouldn’t be a king, I will always consider you a leader, both of myself, and of monarchists worldwide.
It is truly sad to see you go, and I will miss you dearly, especially as-like Kevin pointed out-you have no replacements. The hours I’ve spent reading your blog have been the most well spent in my life, and though I’ve rarely commented (mainly because I don’t feel I have much that’s worth adding) I want you to know that you are in all likelihood the only person in the whole of the Earth whose political views I agree with wholeheartedly. I wish I could give you more for all your efforts-a thank you note feels like such a small gesture in comparison to all you’ve done-but I shall have to be content with knowing that I’ve done what I can do. I can only hope that one day you will be rewarded for all that you’ve done in defence of God’s Sacred Institution of Monarchy, whether that reward comes in this life, or the next.
Though your absence will be missed, I will take solace in the fact that people like me still have the countless articles you’ve written here to look back on and continue to learn from. There is still a great deal we can learn from all you’ve written, and I’m sure there will still be newcomers who’ll stumble across it, and end up being changed by it, as so many of us were. With that in mind, I truly hope that you keep your blog up, even if you’re not coming back anytime soon, or even at all, as there is still much people can learn from these Monarchist Archives even if their Archivist is no longer available for queries. I wish you the best in all your new projects and I hope I will hear from you again, whether it be here or elsewhere. God bless you, and always remember, Fides Traditio Monarchia!
The Blue Baron
Thanks to you, Defender of Traditionalism
It's good to see you have rest. Despite how sad it is, I think you deserve a break.
ReplyDeleteI'm an avid reader of the blog and love your view of the past. You taught me to view the human condition as it should be: timeless. The blog showed grand figures of our history, emperors, kings, and passionate supporters. While those austere names deserve respect and recognition, I learned from you how intimate and close their history is. The great leaders and emperors, despite their distance, are very close to ordinary people's dreams and desires. This blog convinced me how monarchy is closer to ordinary people than any other government.
That's the most profound thing I liked about your blog. It has a very intimate view of the past, apart from the history books and dialectical materialists. While I would credit you for helping me understand the world and its political theories, I think the most meaningful is the rediscovery of the past.
- YourFeelsMatter
PS: Sorry about the kidney stones remark. I know you like your tea, and I was just teasing.
The Mad Monarchist, i discovered your blog just 2 years ago, but like happened to the Blue Baron, it changed my life. You created such an unique and great content in these years, God bless you and good luck on your next projects.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for all these years reading you from southern France. Please keep this blog online, it's a treasure for classical and critical History, and solid reflections in defence of Monarchies and conservatism. 'Wish you the best, under God's benediction.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the education, best wishes from Australia!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your years of extremely valuable work, which was very enlightening for myself and for your many other readers. I appreciate your work. I am a Catholic monarchist.
ReplyDeleteWow, I first came upon your website years ago and instantly favorited it. It was very refreshing to find a well laid out blog that was traditionalist in perspective that was very rich in information dealing with the various monarchies worldwide, along with a lot of history lessons packed in as well!!!!! I hope you will keep it up at least for the time being, as it is indeed a great source of information. I wish you luck in your future endeavors and I am glad it sounds like it will be pro monarchy/traditionalist in nature. Take care and keep it up!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSad to see this blog be put on hiatus, enjoyed the articles. Thank you for your work and may you return again soon.
ReplyDeleteI will miss your posts very much. It was a great feeling every time I opened this site and saw a new article. You truly have done God's work here and I hope you one day come back. If not, it's been a pleasure, and good luck in your future projects!
ReplyDeleteYour blog has been educational, very entertaining, and always a great interlude a crazy world. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you will not forget the page and offer us an occasional essay when you have time and desire!
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry to see you go, MM. We haven't always agreed, but I've always enjoyed reading your blog. Please do keep it up! There are many people still searching for sanity and, like many of the commenters above, they may start their journey to it by happening across The Mad Monarchist.
ReplyDeleteThe 21st century will likely see the resurgence of monarchism at some level throughout the western world, and future generations will read the writings of a so called "Mad Monarchist" which wrote many years before their time of the ancient old system of kings and their subjects.
ReplyDeleteMay the Monarchs be with You.
i first found you in 2012 without you i would have never become a monarchist you showed me and many many others how monarchy is better then democracy you showed me the many pros of monarchy and the many flaws in democracy you need a break but i hope you come back we need to show these anti monarchy losers whos boss
ReplyDeleteGod bless you Sir. Although you called yourself mad it was madness with a touch of sanity in an otherwise completely mad world of nihilism, deconstructionism, and narcissism. You gave me hope that there were people out there, like myself, who thought tradition, hierarchy, and duty were blessings to be rediscovered and restored. Always enjoyed your insights and perspective. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteJust checking out the movement. Seems I'm late but have a lot of reading to do. Thank you so much for your time and effort. Leave this site up-- there's thousands more behind me.
ReplyDeleteWow, never expected this but such is life. Wishing you the best and thanks for the education - and hope we cross paths again sometime.
ReplyDeleteDamn.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to miss you!
Those mini-reviews were awesome! That would be the perfect thing for one of those desk calendars where you tear off the old date to reveal the new date and get another cat picture, or definition, or on-this-date or comic strip but yours would be lesson on monarchy.
Thank you so much for your years of work. I discovered you around four years ago at the age of 13. Your blog helped me grow into what I am today. You inspired me to become deeper in my faith, in monarchist groups, in traditionalist circles etc. I shall miss you sorely. But I am determined to continue your legacy by making my own blog. God bless and return to us soon.
ReplyDeleteYou showed me the way, I always enjoy to read your articles, I hope to see you back
ReplyDeleteGod bless you my friend
Good riddance.
ReplyDeleteMonarchism is a dead option and the world needs to move forward, not backward.
Forward? Relative to what? Do you think that just because democracy is popular now it always will be? I bet the Romans thought they were moving forward when they cast off their democracy in favor of empire. But I guess you know better than they did, is that it? "Remember: Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that didn't commit suicide."
DeleteMonarchy has been dominant in the world for 90% of history, and its only because of the stability and prosperity that monarchy provides that people are ever decadent enough to consider passing fancies like republics.
Democracy is NOT the future because it ALWAYS eventually fails, and gets torn apart by its own factionalism.
It is a move forward- a move where people can at least afford to live in a house and have children and a family.
DeleteCease your disrespect, you shameless harpy.
Actually, Monarchy has an automatic economic advantage, and democracy has an automatic economic disadvantage. The world today is actually a world where fewer and fewer people can afford to live in a house and have children and a family, and it is all due to the failure of democracy/republicanism.
DeleteOh,no! I was hoping to read your take on Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding.
ReplyDeleteThis is a phenomenal resource for monarchists worldwide. We will miss your contribution to our sacred movement and wish you the best in your future endeavours. Thankyou, MM.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your situation! Please return!
ReplyDeleteMay God be ever with you and your family.
Thanks for all Mad Monarchist, greatness from Argentina
ReplyDeleteI may be months late to this post, and I only discovered you a few months ago, but still, I greatly appreciate what you have done here and the work you've put in. I hope your life is going smoothly.
ReplyDeleteAs always, this is your blog, and I would never presume to tell you how to run it. But clearly, your work has great value...I think it is fair to say that you have significantly impacted the lives of many - including myself - in a positive way. You are not alone, and your voice is not being wasted in the wind...If this is honestly the end, then I wish you well, and leave you with my sincerest thanks. But I don't think it is the end -- at most, i think this is the end of the beginning.
ReplyDeleteHello Mad Monarchist, I have only been reading your blog for about half a year now and was sad to hear three months ago that you would be leaving the internet, and I know that you may not even see this as it is on a 3 month old post, but I think I speak for most of us when I say that I urge you to come back. You have truly been an inspiring bearer of tradition and someone who has been so dedicated in attempting to be a unifying figure for monarchists of all stripes. You truly had a unique gift and contribution which you made to the online community and the hole that has been left by having such a brilliant mind is a deep wound to our cause. Charles Coulombe released one of his weekly "Off the Menu" videos this week and in it there is a section in which he speaks about you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlFnY7kmWZ4 ,go to 22:27 for the section on you. And I have to say that I agree with him. We the community beg you and pleed with you to come back.
ReplyDeleteI also pray that whatever hardships you may be experiencing will be eased and I encourage you to remember our Lord's suffering under his great hardship, that you may pray to him, so that he may ease your sorrow.
,If you do decide not to come back, we will truly have lost a great thinker and member of this community. I wish you the best of luck MM in whatever path you choose to take.
I don't know if you will ever read this, but likely you have heard many pleas to leave this site up. Of course, I found this site just today, alas.
ReplyDeleteIf you never post here again, this site would still be invaluable to those who read it and share it with others. It is a magnificent temple, and should it remain "uninhabited" by its constructor, will still be honored by many who will visit, inspiring a sense of awe and relevancy as history painfully walks forth. This site's offerings to those who wish to educate themselves and others will become, I believe, ever more prescient. It will allow those to "run with the vision" as history unfolds, and help make clearer the waters of politics, the direction of which is all vanity and dolor.
Please come back.
ReplyDeleteIt has been requested that plea's for you to come back and continue your work be related to you, so I am doing just that; please continue your work. But, I am sure whatever project you are endeavoring to complete is most worthy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a rich and meaningful website to explore,
Yours in Christ the King of Kings,
Eric Kelleher

Everyday still, after being closed for almost 6 months, I check to see if our dear friend MM updated his blog. I get excited to see if a new article shows up on the top of the page. Alas it has yet to happen. Please come back soon.
ReplyDeleteso sad to see you go, I've been back and forth for a long while now, and I loved reading your posts. Please try and keep this up as an archive for knowledge on a subject that is seldom defended. Take care and best of luck to you. I hope that one day you decide to come back, we'll be here.
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much for the amazing insight and love of history and tradition you have brought to us. You have greatly helped me to understand the beautiful thing that is monarchy. I have hated repupblicanism in my heart but I had never found such wonderful arguments for or explanations of monarchy before finding your site some years ago. You have had a huge impact on me and my thought and I thank God for you and your service to Him in your work. May God bless you and all monarchs! May you continue to fight for the monarch above all others and would that we both meet in heaven.
ReplyDeleteGod bless your way sir.
ReplyDeleteAlways would come back here and read your posts on the Romanovs and if I had something related to monarchy that I wanted to know I would always come here but I hadn't for a while so I missed this. So I have some reading to do.
ReplyDeleteI was a monarchist before coming here still am and still always will be but I just recently remembered what it meant to me when I thought of Franz Joseph, the Kaiser I adore and would have happily served had I switched places with my ancestor in Slovakia. What it means to support monarchy and what it means today. Now I just have to shrug and smile, I guess at the end of the day I am an old reactionary. Always have been but I suppose I didn't pay it as much mind as I once did but seeing all of this reminds me of that and brings a smile to my face and my choices and beliefs.
Well, rambling aside, whatever you do may God bless you and guide you along the path of righteousness. I have enjoyed reading all of this a lot.
Yes,
ReplyDeleteI still check in hope that ....

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with us your historical insights. I wish you much happiness and fulfillment in the next chapter of your life
ReplyDeleteI still have hope.
ReplyDeleteGod speed, MM. I am certainly not one to lecture anyone on long absences, neccessary or otherwise, but it was thanks to your fortuitous discovery of my blog that it got the shot in the arm it rode for years and I am forever grateful for that. Whatever your endeavours, may God bless them and may they bear fruit and we'll still be here when you get back. You've touched many hearts with your work here so never make the mistake of thinking you have had no effect.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the post on The Mad Monarchist: Consort Profile: Empress Eugenie of France.
ReplyDeleteI still have hope as well
ReplyDeleteHi Madmonarchist,
ReplyDeleteEven though it seems its been a long time since someone last posted on your website and if I am to understand correctly you have taken a break (well deserved I am sure) then I can only hope that this comment reaches anyone and ultimately you if possible. To say I was once a naive republican and am now a strong monarchist would be an understatement. The main practical problem being I cannot blend into modern society in any meaningful way I think ultimately because of my beliefs. I think it is long past just being a adolescent rebellion against a society that I have been mostly rejected from but rather a very special or "spiritual" experience. I do not live entirely without privilege. I have what you could say all the modern conveniences but it is a consistent burden that this is largely as a result of the generosity of those who have managed to find a place in society and who I sense are growing inpatient with my (what must seem like to them) idleness. What started as a general interest in military structure moved into political structure (I was still heavily against hereditary succession at this stage) and ultimately this moulded into a interest and in turn devotion to the belief that monarchy is the natural form of government and monarchy is the pinnacle of God's plan for earth. The cause for monarchism these days is in a state of seemingly inevitable extinction. Unworthy people who have gradually brainwashed the masses into believing by giving them democracy it gives "the people" the ultimate power over their country is a grand sham, perpetuated by the leadership of the United States in world affairs and the passage of time. Instead a "urban elite" has formed on a grander scale than ever conceivable by past monarchist regimes. There is no leadership core and it indeed has included many people that may feel marginalised "misled" in a monarchist regime but is a merely a cover so that people not chosen by God may assume the Sovereign power or a large part of this Sovereign power over their people and nation. It is my interpretation that Satan, the Devil or whatever he may be called sits at the right hand of God as a "needs to an end" with power over all things second only to God. There can still be those who's life appears to show them "lost to the Devil" but in fact they are very Godly people who just have not found the right path yet. Then on the opposite scale there could be those vested with many of the icons of God but are in fact ultimately Evil. Anyway, this summarises my views which I believe may potentially align with of yours. Goodday to you.
Thanks for everything and please... will you return sometime?
ReplyDeleteCame to pay respects
ReplyDeletePlease come back
ReplyDeleteI hope you return. You've shaped my thought so much through your wisdom and knowledge. It would be a waste to deprive the net of such powerful logos. Thank you for everything and hope everything is fine :)
ReplyDelete
