War Time Monarchs So Far

In case some further background information might be helpful, here is a list of monarchs profiled here in the past from those countries which have so far been discussed in our 2015 theme year on World War II. Please to note that there are others but this list is restricted to those whose countries have been highlighted in the months up until now (not those yet to be discussed). Peruse as you please:

  1. Hello, Mad Monarchist. This is my first time commenting on your site, but I've been lurking for over a year. While not a monarchist myself, I am very interested in history and find your site very informative.

Regarding World War II monarchs, do you know anything about then-Princess Elizabeth's service during the war? I think she drove a jeep for the British Army. She may not qualify for your list, but it could make for a very interesting post.

    1. There's not much that I would have to tell I think. She was in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service which provided logistical support for the regular armed forces. She drove army trucks and did mechanic work. I heard a story once that, while she was working on one vehicle, King George VI secretly pulled out the spark plugs and then watched with amusement as she tried without success to get it started once it was (she thought) repaired.
