  1. Yes, I'd say they do. But who is the very classy royal on the right?

  2. Now, now, you're stacking the deck;-) That is the worst possible photo of Michelle, and one of the best of Paola. Still, I think we are on the same page here. There is no contest between these ladies.

BTW, I am just now reading Emile Cammaerts' classic biography of Albert I, "Defender of Right" and I hope to have a review up after I finish. It is GREAT, probably the best work in English on my favorite king of all.

  3. That is Queen Paola of Belgium. Admittedly she doesn't look that way today, that picture being taken when she was 'brand new' in Belgium and freshly plucked from Italy by the future King.

And yes, Matterhorn, I am being entirely unfair. That is the worst photo of Michelle I could find (the second worst I already used in a similar comparison) and one of my favorites of Queen Paola. I don't know if it's the 'best' as, back in those days, I don't think I've ever seen a bad picture of Queen Paola (I just think she was stunning). However, I am at least more honest in my propaganda than the republicans. I will admit to (flagrantly) stacking the deck and I don't believe in pretending with names like "Ministry of Public Information" or such claptrap.

I will eagerly look forward to your review. I would have a hard time naming a single favorite, but King Albert would definitely be up there. He was "every inch a king".

  4. Okay, I am republican with a small "r" by heritage, and I am not anxious to see the United States governed by a monarch...but, on the other hand, I find the above pic hard to argue with.
