The Passing of an Archduke

Today His Imperial Royal Highness Archduke Otto von Hapsburg-Lorraine, eldest son of the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary passed away in his home in Bavaria at the age of 98. "Dr. Otto von Hapsburg" as he preferred to be known, was a member of the European Parliament, Honorary President of the International Paneuropean Union and a long time advocate of a united Europe. He was an outspoken enemy of nationalism and communism and an advocate for the former nations of the Danube monarchy. A great man in many ways, the last living link with the old European order pre-1918, he will be greatly missed. The Mad Monarchist sends heartfelt condolences to the House of Hapsburg and all the peoples of the former Dual-Empire. May His Imperial Royal Highness rest in peace.

  2. Thanks for this. He was a great man indeed. He will be sorely missed. Otto, servus Dei, requiescas in pace, lux perpetua luceat tibi!

I know that his body will be buried in the Kaisergruft in Vienna, while his heart will be put to rest in Pannonhalma, Hungary, where he was a high school student. Both on 16 July. Does anyone know any further details, the exact time he'll be laid to rest?

I'm afraid I can't attend anyway, becauste my Confirmation will be on 16 July.

  9. I'm very confused: Is it Hapsburg, or Habsburg?

    I keep seeing both.

  10. "Hapsburg" is the common spelling in English while "Habsburg" is the German spelling.
