Anniversary of Royalist Victory

197 years ago today the largest battle ever fought on Texas soil took place and it was a battle between republicans and royalists in which, happily, the royalist side was victorious, securing the continued reign of His Catholic Majesty King Fernando VII of Spain. The Mad Monarchist fondly remembers The Battle of Medina.

  2. They gained the better part of ten more years for the Spanish empire but, not surprisingly, it was events in Mexico that would determine the course of things. Had more known how short-lived the Iturbide monarchy would be they might have wished to have stuck with Spain and simply tried to ignore the growing liberalism.
