It Is Official!
Even in the staunchly republican United States every morning news show has gleefully reported the big news from Great Britain: HRH Prince William is officially engaged to marry longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton in London next year. Palace officials stated that Prince William proposed to Kate while on vacation in Kenya in October but informed only the Royal Family and of course Kate's family with whom the Prince is very close. The Prince also kept to tradition by asking Kate's father for his permission to marry his daughter. Prince William presented his beloved with his late mother Diana's engagement ring, in an effort, he said, to include her in this grand occasion. So far no further details have been released as to exact date and location but those answers have been promised to come "in due course". The Mad Monarchist joins all the loyal subjects of Great Britain and the Commonwealth realms in sending heartfelt congratulations to the young couple, the future King and Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland etc on the occasion of this happy event. May Prince William and the soon-to-be Princess Catherine have a lifetime of happiness together. God Save the Queen!
I can "see" the cover for the next "Majesty" magazine issue! Something to look foward on the newsstand. :) I'm sure "Royalty" magazine will have something too.
ReplyDeleteYour site was where I first learned this happy news at 6.30am NZ time Wednesday 17th Nov. - thankyou! - from Valerie.
ReplyDeleteI am more interested in what republicans might make out of this. To be specific, the British republican pressure group, Republic, has gain a rise of membership since the wedding of Prince Charles and Camila. And if they learned anything from Swedish republicans - using a royal wedding in tough economic times as an opportunity -, this could be a boost for them, and some steps closer to a national debate.
ReplyDeleteAh, but there was a hint of scandal at Charles and Camilla's wedding - after all, that was the relationship that had torpedoed His Highness' marriage with Diana, the People's Princess. The press hasn't quite been forgiving of Prince Charles on that account, and Diana also has many who haven't forgiven the Prince of Wales.
ReplyDeleteThis, however, is an occasion of joy, and it would, in all probability, backfire spectacularly. Even in present economic circumstances, it would give people a spot of bright and cheer, and if we keep bringing that up, then the republicans will look like a bunch of dour funless dolts.
I've added my congratulations to Prince William and Miss Middleton on my blog, but it certainly couldn't hurt to repeat them! Add me to that chorus of God save the Queen too!
A wedding may be just what the doctor ordered for the downtrodden Commmonwealth nations. It was the same for Charles and Diana, hard economic times cheered by a happy occasion. If the republicans try to make something of it (and I'm certainly not saying they won't) most would likely view them as simply mean-spirited and hateful. Which they are.
ReplyDeleteI shall add my own most hearty congratulations to this joyous occasion, always good to hear of a Royal Wedding.
ReplyDeleteI tried earlier but the machines wouldn't get on with it.
God Save Prince William, and may he have a happy marriage.

ReplyDeleteI add my Congratulations to the couple, I have read in the papers that the good prince has even given her Princess Diana's ring, a touching moment.
ReplyDeletePity that the sunday world showed a rather risque faked image of Kate that internet pranksters posted soon after the announcment, the palace is furious and rightly so.
