Or, as Napoleon III put it in the film "Juarez", "government of the cattle, by the cattle, for the cattle". It can be a useful system in some, maybe even many, instances, but it is also a system which is easily manipulated by the most base of humanity.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-46744222116895364412009-10-08T20:27:44.124-05:002009-10-08T20:27:44.124-05:00On the House of Lords blog, Baroness Murphey said ...On the House of Lords blog, Baroness Murphey said that she was in Dublin shortly after the Referendum, and learned a dirty secret about Democracy Ive known for ages. Mist of the Voters, including promenant University proffessors, did not actually understand what they were voting for.

Mist thought they were voting to remain part of the EU, and few seemed to understand what the Lisbon Treaty was actually goingf to do.

An uninformed electorate voted the way tey did because the Government intentionally kept knowledge form them and ran a better campaign, which made people think they'd not be part of the EU ( A good thing but the Irish seem not to agree) if they voted no.

Basically, it wqas like the USA, when we elected barrack Obama on his "Hope and Change" platform. People projecte donto Obama what they wanted to see, but knew little of his real policies.

I hardly call that a true victory. The Irish were frightened also by loosing work and Euros from the Contenent, something not actully a risk.

So they vited in Ignorance, but hey, this time Voted the right way.

Isn't Democracy wondeul?ZAROVEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17668854596329493360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-64318644324865799062009-10-08T00:22:16.321-05:002009-10-08T00:22:16.321-05:00I am reminded of an interview with a prominent Aus...I am reminded of an interview with a prominent Australian monarchist in which he was explaining the differences between Australia and the UK (dispelling the myth that sharing a crown implies British rule of Australia) in which he stated that the Australian constitutional monarchy was better than the British model for the very reason that in the UK the government alone has decided EU-related issues whereas in Australia such decisions would require the consent of the population.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-41007562975128850992009-10-07T23:37:55.381-05:002009-10-07T23:37:55.381-05:00I might point you to this article that was in toda...I might point you to this article that was in today's Sydney Morning Herald:
http://www.smh.com.au/world/secret-eu-plans-to-become-new-global-power-revealed-20091007-gn6d.html

Frankly, I find their underhanded tactics to be quite disturbing. The guarantees provided to the Irish are hardly likely to be honoured for too long (with regards to their neutrality, abortion laws, etc), and it seems a little odd that these people who claim to respect the will of the people can't actually take it when that will is not on their side.

Still, Vaclav Klaus, the Czech President, may just give enough time for the Tories to get in in Britain and reverse ratification of the Lisbon Treaty after referendum. It's a stretch, I know, but Klaus won't sign (he can't - there's a constitutional challenge before the Czech Supreme Court).

One would have to wonder, though, how so many europhile politicians have not ever feared the charge of treason...LAW Wellshttp://lawwreview.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
