A year or so ago I guess, a big shot at his job tried to lure my right-hand-man "Teapot" into 'riding the goat'. I told him exactly what I thought about that and of course he didn't do it, but they have not gone away and my simple line is that, if they are so benign, why so secretive?

As for Marie-Amalia, I'll add her to my list. I have been having trouble lately coming up with good ideas for consorts. Just an FYI to other readers though; this does not mean I am taking requests; I would be overwhelmed with 'advice' if I did and no one can write well about a topic *someone else* is interested in. I take these requests because I am interested in the subjects, I have been in need of suggestions and finally, after this much time, Matterhorn is entitled to special treatment.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-80891571543721938962011-02-16T16:56:28.259-06:002011-02-16T16:56:28.259-06:00Even after papal prohibitions on joining the Freem...Even after papal prohibitions on joining the Freemasons and so forth, many people, even otherwise devout Catholics, seemed to pay no attention, continuing to see these groups as benign, philanthropic societies, until they learned the hard way. As you say, many people did not really understand what they were supporting.

Another request: might you do a consort profile on Maria Carolina's daughter, Marie-Amélie, at some point?Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18230268418171628594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-21547891675746426792011-02-16T14:47:45.178-06:002011-02-16T14:47:45.178-06:00I love stories of people who come to their senses....I love stories of people who come to their senses. There a number of examples and I think it also shows how people like the Queen here or others of the "Enlightenment" era (especially royals but even men like Voltaire) were not advocating for what eventually came. They wanted a liberal society run by the 'educated people of quality' and not by the mob. The problem is, you cannot challenge traditional authority without the public then challenging you. If person or class "A" has no inherent right, why should person or class "B" have?MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-34271749860995012492011-02-16T11:28:54.272-06:002011-02-16T11:28:54.272-06:00It was a treat to see this appear so quickly. Thanks:)

I believe that Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette also went through a similar naïve, liberal phase, in their earlier days.Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18230268418171628594noreply@blogger.com
