The "wait & see" attitude is actually something that has been fairly common in English dynastic disputes.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-42417772879864115792010-08-18T11:37:21.396-05:002010-08-18T11:37:21.396-05:00In general, I think the Prince was foolish to turn...In general, I think the Prince was foolish to turn back at Derby. The Hanoverians had lots of troops all over the place. . .but thus far they had managed to avoid being anyplace near the Jacobites. I wonder if the "wait and see attitude" wasn't a good deal more prevalent than it appeared to be in retrospect.

Ages ago, a friend and I "wargamed" the "invasion" of England by the Prince (cool little game called, appropriately enough, "1745")...I took the Jacobite side and wound up in London.El Jefe Maximohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14661511063910659377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-17783502172774977002010-08-13T13:56:17.422-05:002010-08-13T13:56:17.422-05:00This whole struggle reminds me of the feud between...This whole struggle reminds me of the feud between the Catholic and Protestant Vasas in the 16th-17th centuries.Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18230268418171628594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-756599906230635472010-08-12T03:56:12.063-05:002010-08-12T03:56:12.063-05:00If one wishes to be optimistic (not something I...If one wishes to be optimistic (not something I'm usually accused of) I could imagine a couple of differences. Friendship with France may have been a big help in avoiding the loss of the American colonies and, possibly, avoiding or putting an early stop to the French Revolution. Secondly, the Stuart program of 3 kingdoms under one Crown may have at least setback the movement toward centralization and big government that is being felt in full punishing effect today.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-86759067572442656492010-08-12T02:44:44.081-05:002010-08-12T02:44:44.081-05:00oNE WONDERS wht may have been had he succeeded in ...oNE WONDERS wht may have been had he succeeded in reclaiming the Throne, or f Scotland had won and managed ot declare Independance.

Or, had he taken the French up on the later offer and during the 7 years war managed to win.

Perhaps modern ideals woudl be very different indeed!ZAROVEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17668854596329493360noreply@blogger.com
