He betrayed both the Qing and the republican, without honor and conscience. He thought he was smart and cunning, while in reality he was just a small time traitor. Kind of a "karmic justice". It also reminds me of Wu Sangui, a general who betrayed the Ming to the invading Manchu. He also suffered the same fate of Yuan Shikai, the end of his life is not so nice.

What is interesting to me is that one man has the potential to change history and everything around him. Just because of a traitor, the dynasty get its final nail to the coffin.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00896743040743242505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-89571484629706173242016-12-16T14:33:45.064-06:002016-12-16T14:33:45.064-06:00MadMonarchist can he be seen as the failed spiritu...MadMonarchist can he be seen as the failed spiritual successor of Napoleon as his circumstances of rising to a status of an emperor are almost similar although he had a shorter reign as compared to NapoleonAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06128574998435036078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-38555407859077023702016-12-15T00:40:39.156-06:002016-12-15T00:40:39.156-06:00After the Forbidden City was occupied twice by for...After the Forbidden City was occupied twice by foreign powers, I think most traditionalists would have believed that the Qing Dynasty has lost the Mandate of Heaven.
In 1912 some traditionalists wished to give the Imperial Throne to the Patriarch of the Clan Kung (the descendants of Confucius), unfortunately their voices were put aside by “the great” Mr. Sun and his cadres.
If during WW II the Japanese military leaders acted more like the Manchu rather than the Mongol, who knows probably now we would see the Yamato Dynasty as the reigning Imperial Dynasty of China.TANAKA8120https://www.blogger.com/profile/08169056478150976834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-28475690538039204052016-12-13T09:42:07.053-06:002016-12-13T09:42:07.053-06:00As I said, but take a look at the examples you nam...As I said, but take a look at the examples you named. Reza Pahlavi led an anti-British coup against the pro-British government that won him support with the nationalists and modernizers. The National Assembly voted him into power and made him Shah, he didn't just declare himself Shah entirely on his own. Ahmed Zog did but he too did things which won him some nationalist credit though it also ended up sparking an invasion that chased him out of the country so his brief reign was not a success. Iturbide brought the left and the right together (albeit briefly) and only assumed the throne after the Spanish refused and his army demanded it.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-54658810482191292592016-12-13T03:58:49.218-06:002016-12-13T03:58:49.218-06:00in his defense, he not only one. Pahlavi from Iran, Zog from Albania, Iturbide from Mexico, etc.

Military General become dictator is not unusual. And Yuan shi-kai self-declaration is attempt to give himself unlimited power, unrestrained by any election. He is no different from Nasser, Horthy, Ataturk or Manaxas. Absolute power is the goal, not any support from Monarchist nor any benefit from traditional title. PhilippeOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07972380352123150699noreply@blogger.com
