As a Czech, though, I take a small objection to "all Slavic land" in the Empire being equated with the former Yugoslavia in your post. ;-) Those are the Southern Slavs (which is what the word "Yugoslavia" amounts to, actually). Together with the Slovaks and the Poles, we're proudly Western Slavic. :-) After all, the area around here got a special dispensation for Slavic Mass rather than Latin back in the 9th century, so...Hana - Marmotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03532515160608083460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-14120820933464706472016-08-21T09:45:40.117-05:002016-08-21T09:45:40.117-05:00Now, I'm not Catholic and I'm Czech, so I&...Now, I'm not Catholic and I'm Czech, so I'm definitely biased in the other direction, but saying he started World War I would be just stupid...
... as far as I know, Czech history views him quite favourably these days, actually, as the emperor who did his best in circumstances where even his best wasn't going to be enough. WWI started IMHO when Count Aehrenthal annexed Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1908. from that moment on WWI was inevitable. Mistakes were made, but Kaiser Karl always tried to solve the disaster which had been handed to him. Sadly both sides in WWI were more interested in warfare than in peace. Kaiser Karl shines as a beacon of light in an age of darkness.Nickuruhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08874335943208548698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-57434179586790832452012-03-30T23:42:45.132-05:002012-03-30T23:42:45.132-05:00Just thought I'd like everyone to know that th...Just thought I'd like everyone to know that this April 1st marks the 90th Anniversary of the death of Blessed Charles I of Austria. To think, after 90 years these conniving, atheistic politicians that ran (and still run) the territories of Austria-Hungary would realize that democracy is wrong, while Catholic monarchy was the way to go when it came to Central Europe!
Yet they continue to slander Charles's name in the most vicious ways possible (it has been that way since 1917, beginning with the "drunkard" lie), while the unsuspecting population is manipulated and republicanized, taught to think that Austria-Hungary and the papacy was as pan-Germanist as the German Empire! (Note that I'm paraphrasing Bogle's book.)
Here's to hoping that this changes with Charles I becoming a saint (possibly getting the same treatment as Tsar Nicholas II), resulting in the liberal media being exposed for what it truly is, and the Hapsburgs (and possibly Austria-Hungary) restored in due order.yoshigreen22https://www.blogger.com/profile/12915434814340906416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-42129066434042847142011-02-02T13:03:59.551-06:002011-02-02T13:03:59.551-06:00I was unable to access the internet when this was ...I was unable to access the internet when this was first posted due to my training but I can't resist mentioning a few things now that I can. First, Emperor Charles is my all-time favourite monarch. I have studied everything on him I can find and it was a disaster for Europe that he was forced out of power. He was the only one (At least among world leaders) who saw before it happened, what communism and the dissolution of Austria-Hungry would lead to in Europe. I could go further on the subject but I would probably go on for hours. If you want to know more about Emperor Charles, the two best books I have read about him are the aforementioned "A Heart for Europe" by Joanna and James Bogle and "The Last Habsburg" by Gordon Brook-Shepherd. I find it sad that so few people even know about Emperor Charles. Hopefully this changes soon.Christopherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15578059779067587800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-72652424584541819942010-11-15T21:50:15.876-06:002010-11-15T21:50:15.876-06:00You are welcome, though in all fairness I should a...You are welcome, though in all fairness I should add that the Emperor is one of my all-time favorite monarchs and I think his beatification was one of the greatest acts performed by the late John Paul II and certainly not something most were probably expecting.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-36108258099878844892010-11-15T21:40:18.210-06:002010-11-15T21:40:18.210-06:00Thank you for posting such an excellent biography ...Thank you for posting such an excellent biography of the Blessed Emperor!Kathleennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-83344282700570552602010-11-14T19:25:24.310-06:002010-11-14T19:25:24.310-06:00As I recall, Admiral Horthy states in his memoirs ...As I recall, Admiral Horthy states in his memoirs that a dynastic restoration would not have been permitted by the surrounding states who had already annexed large swathes of Hungarian territory, and had the backing of France.
