There could have been, as l'Empereur Maximilien envisioned, balance in the Americas between the USA, Mexican Empire and Brazilian Empire. Without these South and Central America have deteriorated and the USA is the only major power which is not even good for the USA since they cannot possibly manage everything and so many problems are unattended and grow worse and the US is overstretched and cannot even deal with a fraction of them anymore. Carlota maybe had the most painful loss but for the fall of Imperial Mexico really everybody lost!BelgieRoyalisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06180963411526753224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-37234578221625247942010-05-24T14:50:50.556-05:002010-05-24T14:50:50.556-05:00I wonder how would story be if the Mexican monarch...I wonder how would story be if the Mexican monarchy would have survived and Maximiliano and Carlota would have had children. Maybe the history of North and Central America would have been very different.
The USA had every reason for being fearful about a strong and stable Mexican empire. Their dominant position would have been seriously contested, and instead they support the dictator knowing that it would bring not only present, but also future chaos and unstability in Mexico. How sad.

JorgeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-32716245403015115892010-05-24T11:55:49.329-05:002010-05-24T11:55:49.329-05:00Nope, I loved it! I was getting worried people might have been getting bored with spending so much time on Carlota but she's always been one of my favorites and I just couldn't bring myself to edit it down any shorter.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-77589321368989282132010-05-24T06:08:49.080-05:002010-05-24T06:08:49.080-05:00Thank you so much for this profile of Carlota. I'm so sorry for the grief and hardship that came her way.Amber at The Musings of ALMYBNENRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16963815851597145235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-82519399288849226992010-05-24T01:10:31.776-05:002010-05-24T01:10:31.776-05:00What is even more telling is that leading liberals...What is even more telling is that leading liberals across Europe, republicans and even the United States (who ensured the victory of Juarez) all urged Juarez not to execute the Emperor but he refused. This proves, I think, that monarchism was more widespread in Mexico than we are led to believe as Juarez was afraid of it making another comeback, and also that Juarez was not some "new" kind of democratic leader. He was just another typical Mexican republican dictator who had to have total, uncontested power.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-24421326187871670332010-05-24T00:39:39.768-05:002010-05-24T00:39:39.768-05:00The Europeans Courts were sympathetic to Emperor M...The Europeans Courts were sympathetic to Emperor Maximilian as well trying to secure his release, but Benito Juarez claimed he was making an example of Maximilian to prevent a forieng imposed government happening again.

Personally I think those Mexican Republicans have no honor. They most likely claimed they were making an example out of him in an attempt to look like they didn't want to kill him. Maximilian even paid the soldiers not to shoot him in the face which one did anyway, just goes to say that they had to be paid to respect his final request and one flaunted it regardless.

Another example of Mexican republican dishonor is their disrespect for Emperor Agustin by not recognising him as Liberator of Mexico.

So I return to my conclusion that Mexican republicans are without honor and have no sympathy for the murdered Emperors of Mexico.Udileonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08610608350599470580noreply@blogger.com
