However, the point is that most Labour supporters would despise Major (and "Call me Dave" Cameron) just for being Tories and likewise for the Labour PM's. It stands in stark contrast to the unity that only a non-political head of state can achieve.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-89160774235142764172011-01-31T17:39:51.022-06:002011-01-31T17:39:51.022-06:00Hm. Major wasn't up to the job, but at least he didn't loathe his own country and its traditions and institutions the way the other three did and do.

- Edward M. I thought the last four British PM's a good choice since so many (even in their own parties) have such a low opinion of them for one reason or another. Everyone on the republican side think it would be great to have a president, yet they run into trouble when you start getting specific about who that would be and how divisive the choice of any would be.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-1412413299371450662011-01-31T13:15:33.996-06:002011-01-31T13:15:33.996-06:00Don't we all have them. It's often funny how the greatest criticism of politicians often comes from the politicians themselves, like those famous words of Margaret Thatcher, for example.

I'm afraid I do not recognize the gentleman at the top right. Was he Prime Minister before Mr. Blair?
