The first, the last, the greatest of colonial empires! A little country on the edge of Europe becomes a great power!

As a brazilian descended in part from nobles who fought the yoke of the Moor during the portuguese Reconquista, I am proud of my portuguese ancestors! May the Empire rise again and all lusophone peoples be as one once again!

Don't forget that Portugal was also the first national state in Europe.
Nobility Knee Bending Status after King João II stripped all their titles and made them all kiss his royal ring to get them back:
[x] Bent
[ ] Not Bent

As he said: "I am lord of the lords, not servant of the serfs." BASED.

It is a pity that treachery and betrayal from fellow westerners, europeans and even portuguese resulted in history repeating: Now Portugal is once again just a little european country on the edge of Europe. Now the foul globalist powers seek to destroy everything that is distinct in Europe and Portugal and turn that country into another province of the Euroreich. But there is no modern Henrique o Navegador or João II to free it... or is there? May God deliver them!Slaughterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06721640793198044711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-84967674541382881302016-10-05T22:43:48.352-05:002016-10-05T22:43:48.352-05:00About Brazilian Independence: Brazilian Independen...About Brazilian Independence: Brazilian Independence was caused by the Liberal Courts from the Porto Revolution. They were liberal alright... in Portugal. Outside, well, they wanted to turn Brazil into a colony, even through it had spent a decade being a equal Kingdom to Portugal. They wanted to recolonize Brazil and split into poor, dependant chunks. King Dom João VI was powerless to resist.

The original idea was to have a empire-wide parliament representing both kingdoms, but the portuguese cheated by creating the Kingdom of Algarves (South Portugal), a sham kingdom. In fact, that meant the Portuguese had twice the assembly seats they should have had. So the Portuguese Liberals straight-out trolled us. Reality is, the portuguese tail was starting to wag the brazilian dog.

King Dom João VI knew this would happen, so he left his son Dom Pedro here as regent, and it is said that when he left he said to Dom Pedro "My son, if Brazil is to be independent, it is better if it ends up with you, who respects me, than one of those adventurers."

Fun fact: The colours of the Brazilian flag stand for the dynastic colours of the Bragança-Orleans and the Habsburg-Lorraine houses. Some fools believe some tales about gold and forests, but no, its dynastic colours.

A mistake: Brazilian independence was not peaceful. It was a hotly-contested war involving a newly-independent monarchy fighting its dynastic relation, and lots of mercenary soldiers and officers from the Napoleonic Wars and the wars of "independence" in the Spanish colonies. It could have gone either way until Bahia.Slaughterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06721640793198044711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-38491765375233439352013-10-16T00:35:09.174-05:002013-10-16T00:35:09.174-05:00After independence, anti-Communist movements in An...After independence, anti-Communist movements in Angola and Mozambique resisted those regimes, and UNITA did have the Angolan MPLA regime on the run (the similarly anti-Communist FNLA was much smaller and less important than it was). Jonas Savimbi of UNITA might well have won the vote in 1992 had it been free and fair, but it wasn't. Angola though have had major growth through oil and other resources, and its national airline TAAG has also been buying new aircraft. Angola was a proxy conflict, and UNITA did receive support from South Africa and the Mobutu regime in Zaire (neither of which can really be defended).

By contrast, Cape Verde and Sao Tome e Principe have been peaceful and democratic states since 1991.

East Timor was simply tragic, and at least the Catholic Church was on the side of the people against occupation the whole time. They're finding their feet in the world, slowly.

I should add that the heirs to the Kongo Kingdom are still in Angola today, IIRC, while East Timor has numerous royal families of its own.David Votoupalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10580606716887515975noreply@blogger.com
