Usually most opinions on Jane are that she was a complete push over and didn't contribute much but a son, but you highlighted her political activity. I also love the balance you show, presenting as neither saint nor sinner.

Jane was a very clever woman who knew how the world and court worked. If she wanted to make a change she couldn't just charge in and change everything in one night, which in my opinion i think Anne tried to do. She knew it was a man's world and you had to play your part and slowly but surely make your contributions. She also knew that she couldn't have it all her way and she had to know when to stop. She was probably the smartest wife, if not the most educated, being literate and that's it!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-58503896488964962212009-09-16T17:10:18.600-05:002009-09-16T17:10:18.600-05:00That she was not and, in general, I don't thin...That she was not and, in general, I don't think any of the wives of Henry VIII could be considered "lucky", even the one who survived him. What was atrocious was the way Jane's family used her memory, while totally going against her own principles, to advance themselves and their agenda even to the point of trying to usurp the throne.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8783969302315257415.post-2733628545596626442009-09-16T11:46:59.966-05:002009-09-16T11:46:59.966-05:00She was probably the cleverest of all his wives. But even she was not so lucky- dying in childbirth, her son later being raised as a fanatical Protestant (which would have been totally against Jane's ideas), and then himself dying young without ever having much of a reign.Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18230268418171628594noreply@blogger.com
